Dignity South West England – Cold room racking

cold room mortuary racking

Here we were tasked to design a cold room with racking to give as much capacity as possible with some bariatric storage.

The room has a low beam meaning we could only go 3 tier high, we didn’t want to lose too much capacity with a dedicated bariatric bay that are rarely used, therefore we used our vast experience to design a double open bay without a centre post, done using reinforced steel. As you will see in the image there is a bariatric tray straddling two bays, but when not in use 2no. standard coffin/trays can go in each of the 3 tiers, gaining an extra 3 capacity. A max capacity of 18 plus the floor area in front of the racking.

We were asked to price and come up with a solution after the client had obtained a quote from a competitor, our client tells us he was astounded by the professionalism (with CAD drawings of several options), service and the value vs the competitor. We were also advised their measurements were out by half a metre and their drawing was drawn up poorly on Microsoft paint or excel and with measurements that didn’t add up.
