Here we replaced a 1bay 3 tier fridge for a 2bay x 4 tier 8 capacity fridge.
Our customer had bought out a local funeral director, however the mortuary area inherited was of an extremely poor layout.
Originally the shop was alternative use with the previous funeral director taking it on and being sold a fridge (by others) which was simply plonked right in the middle of the room totally in the wrong area and “working” areas subsequently formed poorly around it. The trolley when in front of the fridge was right up to the back wall making loading exceptionally difficult.
The poor quality fridge designed with a side straddle plant couldn’t cope in the confined space and I dare to say probably wasn’t the correct performance duty rating required . The fridge struggled to maintain temperature even though the area was being aided by 2no. air condition units, yes you read correct 2!!!
We went back to basics with our design by stripping the stud wall and UPVC patio doors out. Set the fridge back to a rear wall to create a large area in front for loading, dressing/preperation. We gave the client a couple of design options with pros and cons for their consideration. We passed on (free of any fee) a couple of mortuary experienced building contacts and helped advise on floor and wall hygienic finishes.
As you will see from the images below, we fitted the fridge with a remote cooling unit, expelling warm air outside for efficient cooling saving lots of energy vs the poorly ventilated unit indoors and of course, they no longer need to run 2no. air con units to keep the room cool/aid the fridge cooling unit.
